What is a mosque? Specifically, what is an American mosque? What role does such a mosque serve in our communities? What role does it serve for you?
Or maybe the question is more technical. Is a community responsible for shaping its mosque or should the mosque define the culture and behavior of its congregation, and how?
This American Mosque is a community-directed initiative that explores the challenges, successes, and influences, both modern and traditional, of today’s mosques to answer two basic questions: What defines the American mosque? And how can the mosque, a critical institution, become more inclusive and conducive to the needs of Muslim Americans?
